In 2002, Environment Waikato recognised the Sanctuary property as a Key Ecological Site - a private property of outstanding ecological value. Subsequently EW have made several contributions towards the costs of pest control resources, particularly targeting stoats and possums.

The Thames Coromandel District Council recognises the status of the Sanctuary as a community conservation organisation and remit 50% of the property rates annually. In addition, in 2003 the Sanctuary partnered with TCDC to plant trees and flax along the degraded river margin afther the 2002 storm event. This planting was followed with service contracts, which saw TVS volunteers planting several at-risk sites around the Peninsula.

Department of Conservation staff have provided valuable advice in the management of pest animals on Sanctuary land and the DOC land adjacent to the Sanctuary.

In 2004 WWF-NZ gave $15,000 from the Habitat Protection fund towards creation of the Sanctuary's Native Tree Nursery

Transpower Landcare have granted $2000 over the past 3 years towards pest control - both tools and resources, including mammal traps to assist in benefiting the Valley's native ecology..

Project Crimson funded $1000 in 2001 for the control of possums for the benefit of the beautiful giant rata trees in Tararu Valley. In 2004 Project Crimson gave a further $5,000 towards the Sanctuary's Native Tree Nursery to grow on Rata & Pohutakawa as part of our reforstation efforts.

United Water in Thames have donated several large concrete pipes and assisted with earthworks to improve access within the Sanctuary, as well as preparing a site for the Native Tree Nursery shade-house.

The Pacific Development and Conservation Trust contributed $10,000 to control of possums in 2001. These funds come from the compensation funding France gave New Zealand after the bombing of the Greenpeace flagship, the "Rainbow Warrior", in Auckland in 1985.

The School of Management of the University of Waikato have contributed several computers and related IT equipment - this website that you are viewing was largely built on this equipment, and we are grateful for the University's support.

IHUG have donated a satellite dish to the Sanctuary to assist with our remote Internet access. They have also provided one full year of complimentary Net access.

|
NZ Post have twice donated hundreds of FreePost Community envelopes, assisting with the Sanctuary's mailing needs.

|
In 2005 the Lottery Grants Board funded $5000 for a Weeds Risk Assessment in the Catchment. This assessment is a required action before further funds are allocated towards ecological management such a Pest Proof Fence.

Pub Charity contributed $5000 in 2005 towards tools and equipment for trapping pest animals in the Tararu Valley catchment. This includes a GPS for mapping trails and handheld radios for volunteer safety.

Community Learning Aotearoa New Zealand has funded $2000 of library books to the Sanctuary, which are available to residential volunteers and the local community. |
